Hello, can anyone tell me if Server 2000 will still work without limitations if there are no client licences installed? I have a test machine that does not seem to have any client licences installed yet everything seems to be working ok??
Also what client OS do you recommend to use with server 2000 at the moment I have 3 test client/user machines set up running Win 98, i dont want to use XP is Windows 2000 ok or Windows 2000 workstation...Thanks in advance

Win 2000 sever comes with 5 licenses as the default setting. You can check this under Start - Program files - Admin - License You would only notice this if you had more than 5 users trying to connect at the same time.

As for the OS I personally find XP pro to be the best to work with in a AD enforced domain enviroment.

Thanks for prompt reply, so if I have more than 5 users connected at the same time it would block all over the 5?

No, you can have as many as you want to connect, but if you don't have enough CAL's then you are operating illegally. The server will still function normally however. I disabled my Licensing managers because they're more of a pain than anything else. I just make sure that for every seat I have a CAL.

Thanks Lander, i want to try this Server 2000 out for 2 months so it will work fine, it is just that the system will not be legal!
i am running NT4 at the moment ( dont laugh) with all licencing ok, i just did not want to connect users up, test all the system and then server 2000 stops working due to no licences!
So in brief Server 2000 will work for 1 month or 1 year whether i have server/client licences or not without any limitations?
strange set up!!How do I disable the licencing manager?
thank you again

Just disable the licensing service.
