I had just completed request in Access by

Making Table
Update Query1
Update Query2
Select Query

Now I am asked if we can do it in Crystal?
I assume I can but your input will be appreciated.

Hi,
Do what?

Crystal is a reporting tool, not a Database interface..

I know but if I need to write procedure in Crystal to manipulate tables to Append, Update, Select can I write that procedure in Crystal? We use Cobol tables so I don't know if I can write view and use it...

You see, in this company they want to use Crystal (no design, just data extract) and then import it into Excel and I am going nuts trying to figure out WHY?

So now when I had it done Access to Excel I am asked 'can we do this in Crystal?' I am affraid I don't get something so do not want to ask extra questions.

Hi,
Crystal is not the tool you need..It is a reporting tool and, although with much manipulation of stored procedures you might be able to do some raw data table manipulation, it would be a kludge at best and dangerous to your data at worst..

Crystal can read the data ( assuming it is accessable by ODBC ) and export the results to Excel but it is not a data manipulation tool..

Like Turkbear said and I'll repeat - Crystal is a reporting tool, not a Database interface. Therefore, by DESIGN you can NOT "Append, Update, Select". You CAN "use Crystal (no design, just data extract) and then import (actually Export) it into Excel"
