Greetings! Has anyone ever connected an IP/Serial converter to a Legend or Magix. Specifically a Sena LS-100. I can get it to work on a regular serial connection, but when I try to connect to Magix admin port, I go nowhere. DO I need to set DSR or DTR in a particular state?

All help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks/Quaz

Avaya made the "socket magix" specifically for this purpose. It would allow you to then use the Winspm via IP. I'm sure one of the refurbed dealers may still have one around.

You may be able to get it to work if you change the pinout wiring to that of the 355af adapter. You should be able to find that wiring by searching this site.

If all you're trying to do is to connect with a SERIAL Connection, you just need a 355 A or AF Adpater, and whatever cords/gender benders and 9 to 25 Pin connectors it takes.

If you are trying to use the RJ45 Ethernet Port on your laptop to connect to the Admin port, forget it. That won't work.

The Admin port is SERIAL (RS232), not Ethernet.

Thanks for your replies. I hav enot explained my issue enough. I want access these systems via the internet ( Ip ).Different companies make little do-dads that allow you to access the serial port via an ip to serial converter. I have installed Digi-One/SP units. You set ip address on the unit, set router access and it is working. My customer bought SENA ls-100 units; $40.00 cheaper. The Sena unit is not a home run out of the box. My question is, does anyone have any experience with Sena unit or any manufacturers unit?

Thanks/Quaz

I have used a Digi-one adapter for over 50 sites with excellent results. The main issue is to ensure you choose direct conection to the correct COM port in SPM. The software on the client PC emulates a COM port so it need to map to COM 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,or 8 which is all that SPM can address. For the Digi-one this is viewed/set in the Window's control panel Device manager. Of course the IP addressing is vital, make sure you can ping the Adapter that is plugged into the Merlin administration port.
Hardware hook-up:
RJ45 patch cord from administration port to 355AF adapter – 355AF to 25 to 9 pin adapter – 9 pin to Digi-One – finally Digi-One to Ethernet lan

Really simple and works great.

46 years in the business and counting.
