Serial problem between 2600 routers

[McCisco]

I have 2-2600 routers sitting beside each other connected together over a DTE\DCE serial cable. To one of the routers I have a 3550XL switch connected to. Any PC I plug into the switch is really-really-really slow to the network or internet.
Thoughts?
~ If it is configured correctly should I get ethernet speeds?
~ Could the serial connection be the bottleneck?

~ I think I have 1 major problem
1) No port configuration on the switch ports.

Your conection is not going to be fast , by looking at this it looks like you have a 56K link between devices , this is dialup speed so don't expect anything faster than dialup speeds out of the 3500 , the limiting factor is the 56k link between routers . you also appear to have 10 meg half duplex connections between the 3500 and the router which won't help things either but the limiting factor is your dialup speed serial link .

I changed the clock rate on the S0/0 to 8000000 - it seems to be better. I don't think I can do much to change the speed on the e0/0 interface on the router, I tried to change e0/0 on the router to 10/full and it would not let me.I did change f0/24 to 10/full on the switch. It seems better.

It will show you the speeds you can configure for the clocking. On an RS-232 serial cable, I don't know how fast of a speed it can support. 56000 is 56 Kbps, dialup speed like vipergg says, so for a 1.5 meg speed, it would be
clock rate 15000000
I think...
Also, get into the interface config mode and do "duplex full" or whatever the command is. Hell, do a ? like I do when I can't remember. This would be done on both the switch and the router. I don't trust sometimes the auto-sensing capabilities of inetrfaces on Cisco devices. But that's just me...

Don't change one to full without changing the other , if both ends can't support 10/full leave both ends as half duplex ..

The older 2600's did not support full duplex on ethernet interfaces , it's not a problem on the 3500's , if the router won't take the commands its not supported.... Some of the newer 2600's did do 10/full....

the only ethernet interface on this router is e0/0 not f0/0
I thought e0/0 would only do 10 and f0/0 will do 10/100. I tried to set the e0/0 interface to 100/full and it would not let me. I think the e0/0 interface will only do auto/auto

He was talking about setting the router ethernet interface to 10/full not 100/full . If its ethernet it is 10 meg only.

Sorry, viper---I did not see Joe's post where he tried the duplex full command---Joe, viper is correct---you should not do the duplex full command on one interface only---you can have a duplex mismatch---but I guess if you are connected, that is not the case.

I wonder if the e0/0 port on thee router is doing and actual auto\auto. These old 2600's with 1-s0/0 and 1-e0/0 really are not very good for a home lab\network. but better than anything. I have learned a TREMENDOUS amount of stuff over the last week or so.

The only limitation I can think of is the inability to route between vlans.
