Hi all

Have a problem with the serial ports on a P520 running AIX 5.2 ML4.

Do you know if IBM have restriced the use of these 2 ports as i cannot seem to alter the configurtation of then as i would on any other Pseries I have worked with.

I want to change the login on port2 to delay but when i attempt to change this it says that the login section is not available to change.

Any idea's would be appriciated.

Have a happy xmas and fun new year.

Hi,

The two integrated serial ports of p520 can be used only for modem connections or Async terminals. If you are using HMC and HMC is connected to any of HMC ports on p520 then these two integrated serial ports are automatically disabled. Please let us know, whether you are using any HMC with p520.

If you are not using an HMC, the setting for the serial ports can be found by using a tty session into the HMC interface, you can also set your client NIC to the IP of the HMC port (found in the 520 docs) and use a browser to modify these settings.

Hi

I am not using HMC on this system, do you think the serial port settings have been set in the system hardware as i think the system was setup originally using HMC.
I rebuilt the system just using a dumb terminal connected to the first serial port. Funny thing is that the speed is set to 19200bps not the usual 9600bps and i cannot change it.

Any suggestions please.

the 19200bps is something new that IBM changed to on p5s. As far as I know you cannot change this.
You will also have to use a specific emulation, I think it is vt100.
