ok here goes...

Im running a SP586TB Rev.A Motherboard. OS installed is Win98SE...

i have gotten really good at navigating in windows and IE with the keyboard becuase my serial mouse wont respond but shows up in windows. There is ps2 mouse pins on the motherboard however i do not have the ps2 bus card for it. i have a com->serial ribbon cable attached to com 1 using 2F8 IRQ 3 which is set in the bios and reflect such in windows device mangler. com 2 is disable in bios (nothing attached) LPT port in the bios is disabled (no printer). the ps2 mouse functionality is disabled in bios due to no ps2 hookup. and the modem uses IRQ is also set to N/A. The IRQ handling is set to auto.

i have tried numerous combo mice and serial mice that all work on other systems and being that the pointer shows in windows and a few opti mice that i have attached via a serial/ps2 adapter tells me a signal is being sent to the mouse because the opti light blinks a few times during boot up into windows.... i am still getting the no ps2 mouse attached popup and even though i attach a serial mouse to the serial port -> com port, my little short tailed friend wont budge.... am i missing anything here? it must be somthing simple i am missing or have misconfigured.

Any tips out there?

Sincerely,
Keyboard Blues

Hi krusifix,

Try to disable the PS2 mouse (that I'm assuming Windows finds), then install a generic serial mouse and reboot...

Are you sure that the COM port works -it can be wrecked if you connect/disconnect something to it w/o powering down (both) first!

Good Luck §;O)

Hello krusifix,
02F8 and Irq3 are the base and irq for com2.
Try changing in the bios to 03F8 Irq4 to get Com1.

Base Address and Interupts are:
Com1 03F8 Irq4
Com2 02F8 Irq3
Com3 03E8 Irq4
Com4 02E8 Irq3
