I have put a fic motherboard in, I connected my serial cables but windows doesn't seem to find the serial mouse. Its an older jobby about 200mhz, I tried putting in different cables and a card with 2 serial ports. The card seemed to work but then the mouse wouldn't. I know the mouse works, but it doesn't seem to with this mobo. I wrote fic and they said they would replace it if it had any warranty left but it doesn't. Help would be greatly appreciated. And FIC shipped out some ribbon cables that were jumpered wrong some time ago. Don't rember the details, but there are 2 major versions of IDH10 to D9S or B25S and they got a lot of the wrong kind.
Suggest that you get a voltmeter and verify that B25S pin 2 is at -9 +/- on pin 2 with respect to pin 7 and the D9 pin 3 is same with respect to pin 5. Ed Fair

I have put a two port serial card in the computer. Windows detects it (the mouse), but the mouse doesn't move....I know the mouse works...any help? Could the interupts be set incorrectly, if so how do I set the serial interupts? Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Are the onboard serial ports disabled in CMOS? Ed Fair

As Ed Fair asked, you need to check the cmos to make sure they are set to disabled.
Default Settings:
Com1,03f8,irq4
Com2,02f8,irq3
Com3,03e8,irq4
Com4,02e8,irq3

If you have a dial-up modem installed, you might want to check what com port it uses, base, irq and write it down before you configure your serial card.

Ed Fair, Now that you mention the ribbon cables,I recall that some of the older Gateway computers where designed with 2 wires reversed on thier com ports as well. I couldn't
get a standard ribbon cable to work on it until I compared the two and saw why. One of the original cables was missing
and I had to re-solder to make up a second one. Not fun?

Thanks for all your help guys, I'll try out your ideas, i'll let you know how it goes. Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

I have disabled the serial 1 and serial 2 in cmos, the serial card works. Windows detects the mouse but the pointer wont move and the mouse doesn't react with any click. Any help? Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

Go to device manager and see what is showing for
mouse(s) and remove them - restart and see if it detects
a mouse.

Ok, this is exactly what's hapening:
I have disabled all onboard serials, I connect my serial mouse to the serial card and set jumper to serial 1 on the card. I boot up windows and it doesn't show the error message "Windows couldn't detect a mouse" but when I went into device manager it says there is an error. So I tried to boot windows up without the mouse pluged in and when windows booted up it said "Couldn't detect mouse........" could the problem be in bios? I know the mouse works or could the problem be that no jumpers are set on the serial 1 interupts. If I need to set the serial 1 interupts how do I set them? Also what does "serial interupts" do? Interrupts are the doorbells on the houses. When the doorbell 4 rings the little guy in address 3f8 runs to answer the door. When doorbell 3 rings the guy in 2f8 answers.
Assuming of course that the doorbells are hooked up correctly and that the little guys know what they are supposed to do.
com1 3f8 irq 4
com2 2f8 irq 3
CMOS can be set for different addresses and IRQs and it is possible for doorbells to ring in two houses.
And if the little guys are told to do something they can set the interrupt to indicate that the task is finished.

Ok, on the card I can only choose interupts from 1-15...how do I set them....with jumpers that is.. Scotty Mac a.k.a smaxted

"Another day, another problem"

Should be either a manual or a silkscreen diagram. Ususally two jumpers on each port for addresses and the irqs are set on a row of jumpers. But there as many ways of doing it as there are board designers in Taiwan.
IRQs come out of the serial chip and go thru the jumpers to the IRQ line in the ISA bus connector. But with both serial chip dies buried in one large chip these days , tracing the actual lines can be a pain. And you don't get documentation on the ISA bus anymore either.
Sorry I can't be any more help. Without a picture there isn't any way of giving guidance. Ed Fair
