Hi All,

I am new to this Board/Site, I have to says "Its Great".

I was recently laid off, due to "downsizing", I was located

in a small market for I.T folks, I have since relocated to Atlanta, There are more jobs here. I am using the time off to build up my skills and confidence. I am taking the A+ certification, and then the Network+ certification. I am wondering what should follow? I am not a "strong programmer", more of a hardware-network person.....

TIA

Hey,

Nice to know your enjoying Tek Tips - its a fantasic resouces - and one that shows the real power of the Internet for real people and business. Costs nothing, friendly and people in the same business helping each other.

You could start a civil war on the Tek Tips site here! Some people think that Certifications are the best way to clime (did I spell that right?) the corporate ladder, others think they are a waste of time and money, and some just don't give 2 hoots!!!

Personally, I wouldn't mind doing it, and the actual courses really can be of some use to some groups of people - but IMHO I cannot see the point in the exam as they are at the moment (I only speak for MS exams).

The Microsoft Certified Professional exams can seem a good idea - widely used in the IT market, recognised pretty much everywhere, and not really that technical. The CCNA (I think thats right) are asked for a fair bit as well - so maybe that might be the best avenue.

My first recommendation (if I am in a position to recomend anything! ;-)) would be to analyse if you think you need the certification. They can be very expensive, time consuming and there is no guarentee that you will get what you want out of it (if you pass or not).

Anyway, Good Luck,

Steve Hewitt
