Sequence numbers packets vs. octets

When you read about TCP sequence numbers they usually describe it referenced to the packet and counting number of packets sent and if one is lost it is retransmitted.

As we know the sequence number is a count of the payload octets for the frame, the sequence number counts octets.

I am still researhing this to figure out the exact interaction of sequence numbers for octets and bytes.

Any thoughts or reference material would be helpful
