Currently I have a VPN setup for my users via a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server (PPTP) and it is accessed via the internet which of course shares traffic with all my other internet traffic on my three T1 access lines. I know my current internet pipes are VERY busy - often running at 90% or better during the day. Now my VPN users are beginning to complain that they can't do anything via the VPN - TOO SLOW. I am working on a longer term project to add to my current internet bandwidth (bonding 4 or 5 T1's together in the future) but there are politics involved and the currrent contract we have with our provider is coming up for negotiation.
Anyway, my question is 'Can I run a seperate internet access line (I am thinking via my local cable provider) JUST FOR VPN users and still protect it with my firewall and allow access to everything internal that my users need?' I have a spare router that I can use for this purpose. How can I ensure that this new cable line is used just for VPN access traffic?
