Separting text when outlines created

Hi, I read Clerz's post re:font embedding.

So I started playing around with create outlines for text.

2 questions: once outline created, how do you separate it (like in illustrator, you can ungroup_)....and I can't seem to move it out from where it is....I can move it up and down within a certain range....is this the way it is suppose to behave?

If you want to modify a single letter (s), you can use the direct selection tool.

To ungroup, go to Object menu/compund path and choose ungroup. Then you can select each letter independently.

Except that I made a goof - should have said: To ungroup, go to Object menu/compund path and choose RELEASE, rather than UNGROUP.
