I have the need to segment my server in such that one of my sites has its own database and perhaps even own virtual server.

If at all possible I would like to keep the same urls. IE: I would like to move to another content db but keep it under /it - is this possible?

I also want to be able to pull up last night's backup (stsadm or restoring last night's 11GB content database) quickly and perhaps on another virtual server. Is anyone doing something like this?

I was told my MS that sometimes the config database gets confused if you have 2 of the same URLs in separate content DBs so perhaps this would cause problems?

Thanks!

I don't think you are going to be able to keep the URL the same although you could put a folder in with a auto-redirect page once you have moved the site to another virtual server.
