I am new to Oracle development and want to clarify a typical production setup:

Is it typical to have a separate instance for the OEM repository and RMAN catalogue?

Regards
Harry

It is a good practice to have a saparate DB for RMAN for the simple reason that if you have a DB crash and have to restore, you better have your RMAN repository on another database if you want to be able to access it.
At the same time, it is a good idea to store OEM repository in the RMAN db, since an RMAN db is idle most of the time.
Hope this answers your question.
