If a company has a small budget (under 5-12k)--what do you think the best balance of SEO and Pay Per Click is?

I.E.--Should we spend all of our money on PPC? SEO?

Implement SEO and use the rest on PPC?

Just trying to do some estimating, and I would appreciate opinions.

the definitive answer is of course, it depends.

using PPC is an excellent source of keywords to optimise for but until you have done some optimising on your site, the visitors driven by PPC may not convert as well.

so it's really a [chicken] and [egg] situation

I would go with some optimising for organic search with PPC driving sales while the organic SEO starts to work.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

It goes without saying that a prerequisite to spending money on either PPC or SEO is having an engaging site that customers will want to spend their money at once they've found it. If your site looks like some Geocities home page, you'll be throwing money away trying to promote it.

Arguably, building such a site is SEO.
