Can someone help me - I get the message below when trying to start sendmail on two different RedHat 7.1 boxes:

Failed to start sendmail : Starting sendmail: WARNING: Group writable directory /etc WARNING: Group writable directory /etc/mail makemap: error opening type hash map /etc/mail/virtusertable: Executable files not allowed WARNING: Group writable directory /etc WARNING: Group writable directory /etc/mail makemap: error opening type hash map /etc/mail/access: Executable files not allowed WARNING: Group writable directory /etc WARNING: Group writable directory /etc/mail makemap: error opening type hash map /etc/mail/domaintable: Executable files not allowed WARNING: Group writable directory /etc WARNING: Group writable directory /etc/mail makemap: error opening type hash map /etc/mail/mailertable: Executable files not allowed /etc/sendmail.cf: WARNING: dangerous write permissions 451 4.0.0 /etc/sendmail.cf: line 84: fileclass: cannot open '/etc/mail/local-host-names': Group writable directory 451 4.0.0 /etc/sendmail.cf: line 510: fileclass: cannot open '/etc/mail/trusted-users': Group writable directory FAILED

I have a test box that send works fine on. All three boxes are RH 7.1 with Sendmail configured (supposedly) out of the box. The only difference (that I'm aware of) between the boxes is that the test box is a member of an WinNT4 Domain and is on a private subnet.

These are all permissions issues on the filesystem. Check the permissions of these files/directories on the working server, and make sure they are the same on the new server by using chmod.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I adjusted the rights and it worked.
