I am Compaq TRU64 Unix v5.1. I have setup sendmail 8.9.2 and are able to send email to anyone from the unix host. However outgoing email goes out as user@hostname.domain.com. And if I reply to this address from Outlook/Exchange it fails as exchange cannot find the email address user@hostname.domain.com.

I have seen another host where they sent email as user@hostname and sendmail would receive emails from a reply to this address.

How can I modify sendmail to reply to emails from this host?

Cheers.
Matt.

Hey Matt,

Do you have "hostname.domain.com" listed in your /etc/sendmail.cw file? This file lets sendmail know other names for the host it's running on. Sendmail will detect the server's hostname but the machine may have other names which Sendmail can't detect and this is where you list them.

You'll also need to make sure this line is enabled in your sendmail.cf file.
Fw/etc/sendmail.cw

Good luck,
GJ
