sendmail question

Can sendmail create an autoreply for email?
Example out of office autoreply when emails
received. MS exchange server I believe can
do this we don’t run Microsoft and all I now
about linux is what I have read so far but
would like to know more

Hi,

You can do that with procmail. Sendmail is a MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) but procmail is a MDA (Mail Delivery Agent). On redhat systems, the sendmail rpms are patched to use procmail as the default MDA. See -->

my boss is going to let me take a box home and will
be setting up linux red hat seven to learn some
more with out working on our live system

there is a specialsed program that does this called vacation.. your ditribution might already have it.. otherwise, u can get it off the net...
