we have sendmail here at work.. All of sudden when we send mail to Outside of network to internet domain we get this error...

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: asdfadfasdf
Sent: 8/1/01 8:54 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'user@hotmail.com' on 8/1/01 8:54 AM
No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient.

HOW COULD I FIX THIS PROBLEM.. WITHIN THE COMPANY WORKS FINE>. as well SMTP working Ok too with port 25..

THANKYOU IN ADVANCE>..

Need log messages to really troubleshoot this thoroughly.
You can restart sendmail in the meantime and
run top to see what is going on with your server.

We are also facing the same problem sometimes and we find out 2 reasons for that :-

1. may be address of any of the receipient is improper.
2. and also please note : at that time your line is connected to ISP or not, if yes, disconnect that line and try to send those undelivered mails again.

hope you will find this in order.

u might be having two problems:

either u mysteriously lose your connection to your ISP, in which case u need to notify them and they need to confirm if there was any downtime at the time the MAILER-DAEMON sent u the error message....

or the address your are mailing to has an error, or the server on which it is hosted has got some technical difficulty...

that said.. sendmail should really do its work if it has a route to any network.. your LAN or the internet... it will most definitely deliver the message if the other server is on normal position to receive and process the message...

next time u are sending e-mail, use the command:

ps -ax | grep sendmail

to see what is happenning to your message.. it should give u status reports such as HELO, DATA and the like...

good luck..
