I upgraded from 2.6 to 7 with everything working ok. Only when I send mail (externally outside of the server) to my personal email (name@workid.com) does not work. The mail does work if I send it in the system to myself. I have check all the /etc/hosts and sendmail files but something must be missing.

Any advice?

Teser,

Obvious question but -- is your mail forwarding host set correctly? (in the sendmail.cf file) Mike

I copied the old sendmail.cf (from 2.6) in /etc/mail to my new sendmail.cf in 7.
Is there anything I should change in sendmail.cf?

Teser,

The .cf file needs to be compiled, there's a command line switch to sendmail that will force this -- It's possible that you are running on the compiled version of the original v7 .cf file.

I would also review the v7 .cf file and see what would need to be changed in there to do what you want. If all you are doing is passing on external mail to a fully fledged mail server it's likely that not much would need to be done. Mike

I assumed by rebooting the cf file would be compiled. How else would I compile it?
The sendmail.cf is very big and since I did not change anything I still wonder why the
old 2.6 version doesnt work in 7. Or is there anywhere else I can check to get my mail to send outside?

Look in the v7 .cf file for the mail forwarding host, set that correctly and try that file. Stopping and starting the mail service should reread the .cf file.

I'm sorry that I can't be more specific. Sendmail configuration is one of the most complex areas in UNIX administration. Without detailed knowlege of your configuration it is not possible to tell you exactly what to do -- even with that knowlege I would be wary of giving specific advice, far too easy for me to get it wrong and mess up your system.
