Hi folks,

we are using sendmail on our RS6000 machine (AIX 4.3.3, latest maintenance level) in order to send messages to recipients within our company. The mails are all targeted at our mail server (Win NT).

So far everything works fine. But whenever we try to send a mail to someone OUTSIDE of our company he tells us, that he's unable to deliver it.

How can that be?
Are we missing something?

Our /etc/sendmail.cf looks something linke that (only values that we changed from default are listed):

Dw --> hostname of local host
Dm --> Domainname --> where else must this be entered?
Cw --> local host
Cm --> other Domainname
DSsmtp:[IP of our Mail Server]
CE root
DM --> hostname.domain

Any idea of what might be the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Thomas

Does the machine have access to the internet? You may need to define a gateway address for it to reach the outside world.

Another option is to define a SMTP relay server in your sendmail.cf, this server must be able to accept mail from your RS/6000 and relay it onwards to the internet. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
IBM Certified Specialist - AIX 5 pSeries System Administration

or your main DSsmtp:[IP of our Mail Server]
denies relaying from your aix.yourcompany.com - check with your mail admin to resolve

In our case, such things are the domain of the guys who run the firewall and it's various sidekicks. If that is you, I can't help you any more... I'm not allowed access to the firewall. =)

I had this problem on our RS6000 (AIX 4.3.3) box not too long ago.

Turned out that the Mail Server (NT4) didn't have relaying turned on (as aixmurderer suggested).

Got the Network Admin to turn it on, and never had a problem again.

:)
