sendmail on aix server

Hi,
I am trying to do a basic configurtion on my aix5.3 server using sendmail for only transfering the emails to the main mail server, I don't recieve emails on the sendmail I use it only to send email via the exchange server.
I have the /etc/hosts setup with the exchange server pointing to IP, I have the resolv.conf setup for the nameserver and the domain.
I setup the sendmail.cf
DJmydomain.com
DSexchangeserver (I tryed ip and name)
I don't know but I can send email everywhere else other than my own domain xyz@mydomaine.com I have an error such as unkown user. I have a feeling that sendmail is accting as the main domain name server.
is it a DNS server problem? or a sendmail problem?
your help will be more than welcome I waisted couple off days on this stupid problem

I think you need to set up the Exchange server to accept the AIX server as a RELAY
