When sending mail to the user 'mailer' I get the following returned e-mail from the daemon:

The original message was received at Tue, 15 Jan 2002 11:52:03 -0600 (CST)
from [204.57.72.42] (may be forged)

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<mailer@my.servers.ip.address>

----- Transcript of session follows -----
550 <mailer@myservers.ip.address>... Host unknown (Name server: myservers.ip.address: host not found)

I do not have a hostname setup on the box-just an ip, what files do I need to check to ensure sendmail will actually route the mail properly?

Ok, I looked at all of these files but couldn't make heads or tails of my situation. Basically, all I need to know is what is casuing this error.......

mail me and test all with you.... i only need the result of this command :
sendmail -v MAILER@MAILTO.TO
ledam@caramail.com

WARNING: local host name (Bugtel) is not qualified; fix $j in config file

Then I get the flashing '_' cursor, and nothing happens.

Well I changed the variable to my hostname, and then after issuing that same command again I get:

/etc/sendmail.cf: line 525: expand: recursion too deep (10 max)
/etc/sendmail.cf: line 533: expand: recursion too deep (10 max)

This is from a default sendmail.cf

send me your sendamail.cf please :
d.vancutsem@lbk.be

Click on this link to get a copy:

It will unzip a file called sendmail.txt. Copy it to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and edit these two lines:
MASQUERADE_AS(domain.com)dnl <---- your domain goes here
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=xx.xxx.xxx.xx, Name=MTA') <---- Your IP goes here

Then type:
m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf

This will create /etc/sendmail.cf. This file works on my machine running RH 7.2 Don't forget to restart sendmail ater you do this.

RhythmAce,

the file is missing.. i'm trying to setup Sendmail to use for Internet email, have my own domain-name & everything, it used to work on Windwos 2000 AS.. but since i switched to Linux RH 7.1 it doesn't work, trying to get mail thru a Windows 98 pc with Outlook.

i don't have the "MASQUERADE_AS(domain.com)dnl" line in my config, do i need to add that ?

thx in advance.
