Sendmail log file

I have Sendmail 8.11.1 running fairly smoothly on a SunOS5.8 Sparc machine. The only thing that isn't working is the logging of emails. I am getting critical errors logged into the /var/adm/messages file, but nothing else. I have tried various settings for the logfile but with no joy.

I wish to keep basic transaction details in the log file so I have a record of exactly what has gone out etc..

Does anyone out there have similar problems or know how to get round this?
