I am having a problem with sendmail. I set a RH7.3 server to host my own domain. The problem i'm having is that sendmail will not send email to other domains. The message that it sends to outlook is "example.com, relaying denied for domain". Shouldn't it send to any domain as long a the user that is sending the mail is valid? Can someone please help.

what you're looking for is pop-before-smtp

it works really well, the "readme" will give you all the information required. shouldn't take more than 10 min to setup..

I would advise you get a friend or two to telnet into 'yourhosted-domain.com 25' and try to send.. they should be denied

when that's set.. create a user account, and provide them the information (username, passwd, pop3/smtp, etc) to send email through their clients.. this will make sure everything is authenticating/denying properly, since they'll be connecting from a different network address

that may actually not be necessary.. it looks like u have a typical "relay denied" type error..

this means u haven't configured who is allowed to relay non-local domains through your mail server.. u can do this using the /etc/mail/access file....

in it, define IP addresses or whole networks that u will allow to relay thru your server...

for instance...

127.0.0.1 RELAY
192.168.0.1 RELAY

allows 192.168.0.1 to send e-mail thru ya server....

127.0.0.1 RELAY
192.168.0 RELAY

means any IP address whose network octets are 192.168.0 can relay thru your server...

good luck..

Startac is correct, however setting 192.168.0 RELAY

can/will open your network to any ip matching the set ip

for example if you're trying to setup relaying for when you use a dialup '103.44.323.' anybody with those parts in their ip will be able to relay through you.. 'can you say spam portal'
