Sendmail - can send , but not receive

AIX 4.3.3

Can send mail to any host, but although the host receives the mail it does not get transferred to the users mailbox - there is a mail in root's mailbox with the message 'local configuration error'

Can send mail to Lotus Notes gateway OK

Its obviously an AIX config problem but where ???

Any ideas ?
