Hi, folks.

I have a version of sendmail running on AIX 5.3, which we use with a online mail program. However, when I try to run a given test email to my hotmail account, I keep running into the "connection refused" error from hotmail.

Here's a log from /tmp/debug:
Jan 10 13:22:18 kpnatsp6 mail:info sendmail[88420]: m0AKMIlp052104: to=<jjwood64@hotmail.com>, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=120378, relay=mx2.hotmail.com. [65.54.244.168], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by %smx2.hotmail.com.

The server can forward email to a couple of specified domains. The relay-domains file only contains the domain this server is on. I also tried adding this entry to access:

hotmail.com RELAY

Prior to addressing this, there was no virtusertable, which I added one, then added this entry:

jjwood64@hotmail.com jjwood64@hotmail.com

Anyway, when I try to run my online mail program to send me a test email, it never reaches my hotmail account. What am I missing here? Thank you kindly in advance.

None of those three files will help you. They only tell your mail server (sendmai) what it can relay. The problem is that hotmail doesn't like your server for one reason or the other. Some times this can be the class of ip address you have. It can also be something as simple as your server not having a host name. Your server could be timing out too before hotmail can connect. Have your tried to send an email from your hotmail account to your server to see if it works in that direction? If it doesn't, did you get an error message?

Hi, RhythmAce. Thank you for replying. This is not just happening when accessing hotmail, but other domains; including gmail and yahoo. There are other domains (a couple of them confidential, and which I do not have access) that also reply the same way. The one domain that accepts emails from this is ibm.com.

To further clarify the problem, when forwarding email outside the domain, the username is not recognized (i.e., jjwood64@hotmail.com where jjwood64 does not get recognized) by any server domain which the email is forwarded to. I believe there has to be a setting to alter within my sendmail.cf. Any ideas?
