Hello Sendmail Experts,

I have sendmail 8.13 running on a Solaris 5.9 box and everything is running great. However, I did not assign enough disk space for /var. As a result, user mailboxes (/var/mail) might give me disk problems in the future. I would like to move /var/mail to another slice, maybe /export/home (local). Can anyone please advise on how I can accomplish this?

I know I can create a symbolic link within /var, but I would prefer another solution. I tried to google a solution for this problem, but I came up empty. It seems like everyone is satisfied with putting their user mailboxes in /var/mail.

Thank you in advance

You can change the maildir using procmail, mutt, dovecot or some other programs.

You can also probably change this in an sendmail.mc file, configuring it with a line something like:

define(`maildir',`/export/home')

but I don't know what the "maildir" should be with sendmail. It might be 'inbox', 'maildir', 'spooldir' but I don't know for sure, or if the variable is UPPER CASE (I would guess yes).

I can't dind maildir defined in any sendmail docs. however, i did find maildir defined with procmail. i might look into procmail.

at the moment, i have an additional slice (disk) not being utilized on the box. i mounted this disk on /var/mail, and everything seems to be okay. i need to check with my superiors if they are okay with this. if not, i will need to install procmail.

thank you again for all the advise :)
