I have a KVM setup that has a computer that is transmitting its video image to 4 other monitors in the room. Currently we are doing this over CAT 5 cable and it is working ok but sometimes there are some serious video degradation and performance issues (especially with audio running at the same time as video). Would upgrading the cable to CAT 6 provide any benefit or is there another way to do this that would help the performance.

The answer to that question will depend on several things, such as the quality of the CAT5 cable and termination, end-to-end length, the video modulation technique and so on.

My guess is that usable "bandwidth" is critical. That being said, CAT6 (depending on the flavor) will accomodate anywhere from 350 to 550 MHz--a considerably wider spectrum than CAT5.

I assure you that substituting 50ft of CAT5 for CAT6 will be one of the cheapest communication experiments you'll ever do.
