I'm trying to send a signal from an ethernet port on a StarBand 480, to a metal (aluminum sided) building 175 meters away, connecting to a PC. I've tried Belden CAT 6 cable -- too far. The wireless is a possibility, with a roof mount antenna. There must be a way. Surely could use some suggestions. jimsatguy

This has been covered a million times, but here are some options:

As my estudius telephone pole setting friend Justin said -- you could do fiber media converters.

Point to point DSL

Ethernet transcievers

Point to point wireless

And some BnC media converters do support fairly long lengths as long as the signal level is hot enough... which means you could use RG-11 and be fine.

Thanks for filling in the gaps for me there Nick.
Speaking of poles and p-2-p DSL, we cut the Bldg 93 over to the new phone cable on the 14th (I'd put up the new can the week before). On the 17th the 2nd Ave project demolished the cable that had previously served Bldg 93, with out us knowing. Missed a major catastrophy by just the weekend....
But they are very happy now.
Anyway, no new pictures though.

Which one was building 93? I can't remember. You guys are lucky, I bet Don tripped out.

I wish Don could see me now. From my wee stages of barely being able to gaff a pole, now I'm gaffing 4-5 times a day doing construction for Charter. It's a fun business, but so much less technical only dealing with coax.

What's the schedule for you guys this Christmas? Do you take the break off, or work through it? Let me know, I'd like to come up for a day or two and help out with any big projects that are looming.

We've got a week at Christmas, but I'm taking 2. :) Comp time!
No Don didn't trip too much. I do believe he did send a note down to CP&D though.
bldg 93 was where we set the new pole.

You work would have anything to do along Hwy 1? I spent a couple days in SLO about amonth ago, and came back up 1, saw a lot of new phone cable just north of Morro Bay. I'd say about 4-5 miles of it. Not lashed, or spliced. Very new stuff. thought you might be out there (though it was Sunday).

No BIG projects other than plan review. Visitor Center construstion starts in January I think, then the Library, and of course TII (ask some one at Cal Poly about that). The general conncenses around here is that our consulting engineer firm should be paying my salary. Pretty bad stuff. Anyway, you got a new email? Send it along so we can talk trash with out the whole world listening in...
