Hi All,

I am sending a report to a text file by using the following command: REPORT FORM xyz TO xyz ASCII. I need to create this text file, to mimic a text file created from a different system, and they need to line up precisely. What seems to be happening is that positions of the data seem to change sometimes by 1 character, without my changing it. It may be that I change a different control on the report that is somehow causing this. Or when exporting to a text file the results are unpredictable. Does anyone have any idea's on this?

Sounds like it might be a font issue.

Worst case you could create the report in code with SET ALTERNATE TO and ? and ?? or TEXT...ENDTEXT

Thanx for the reply, but I have not changed the font?

i allready did most of the code with a report writer, but as per your suggestion (there is also filetostr() etc.) i might need to change my route.

I have seen this before and did not find a suitable workaround with a report, and didn't have time to properly dig into the issue.

In my case, COPY TO proved to be adequate.

I have found that VFP Report form xxx TO xxx ASCII to be a royal pain in the Backside.

99% of the time the fix has been to reduce the font & font size until it fits.

Courier New - 9 seems to work most of the time.

Thanx to All,

I will give it a shot with courier new 9 (i am now using courier new 10) & if i still have problems, will probably use 'copy to'. Thanx again and have a great one!

I just tried the copy to (COPY TO xyz DELIMITED WITH tab), and it's adding on double quotes on each line. Can I 'copy to' without those quotes?
