If you are connecting through BT then you will not be allowed to relay mail through freeserves SMTP server.
The simple way around this is just to send all outgoing mail through BT's SMTP server and pick up your POP3 mail from freeserves POP3 server. I do this on three different e-mails accounts even though I'm connected to a differnt ISP.
