This is a very general question, but any information or direction that can be given would be very useful.

The site that I work as currently uses Call Pilot with desktop users. This allows fax calls to be attached to an outlook account.

What about sending faxes. How is this achieved through Call Pilot. Does there need to be a fax machine connected onto the PBX or modem? Is it possible to send fax with a CLI depending on who sent the original fax?

Outbound faxing through Callpilot is available to CallPilot users who have fax allowed in their class of service.

They will need the Nortel Fax Driver installed on their desktop - this is included in the Desktop Messaging client install.

You will also need to make sure the mailbox class of service uses an RPL that can dial out in order to send faxes. There are 2 fields that deal with fax RPL: Delivery to Telephone and Fax, and Fax Printing.

You will need to have fax channels on the CallPilot Server, but you will not need to add any additional hardware.

Well stated. The driver looks like a printer on your PC, so you can 'print to the fax' to send a document. Now if you have a hard copy that you need to send, that woould obviously have to be scanned someplace and converted to an image that can be transmitted by your PC.

Making progress now. I can receive faxes but when I try to send to a fax number, I get the following error:

"The external telephone number used in addressing the message could not be dialed."

I assume that you would have to include a 9, for external numbers?

Could this be because fax channels haven't been setup on call pilot? Is there a way to check for these and if it isn't setup, how would you go about doing this?

See allenmac's post above where he states:

You are being blocked in CallPilot.

Also, yes, you will need to enter the fax number as you would dial it from your telephone set.

Thanks very much for your help. That is now working.
