I have scoured the web and read a number of posts in here, tried sample code but I have questions. Most of what I've read and tried is old (2005 or so, XP etc.). Looked for tutorials but they all seem to require a priori knowledge. We would prefer not to use OUTLOOK.
We have a customer list with just under 2,000 email addresses in an ACCESS DB along with other demographic information, and would like to be able to send emails to certain segments of the list.
I have Windows 7 and office 10, and we have Microsoft exchange but it is remote from my location and on the network. I have downloaded CDO to my machine but I don't know if it should be on my machine or the mail server. (To me CDO is an acronym for VooDoo)
I understand how to move through the list in VB, but I don't know how to set up the link to the mail server or use CDO.

Any bit of help to get me going would be appreciated.

Thanks

What CDO code have you tried?

Andy, I had to make a small change or two, but I have the function sending stuff to the mail server. But, I am getting this error:

Run-time error -'21247220977 (8004020f)
The server rejected one or more recipient addresses.
The server was: 550 5.7.1 unable to relay.

I've looked up the error and multiple sources indicate the server is not set up to relay emails outside of its domain. I will be talking to server guy, unless you have some bit of magic that I might use.

Thanks again for the code. It was a big help.

Yes, you need to talk to your 'server guy' to allow your application sending e-mails. With this CDO approach you may be able to send 1000's e-mails, and that would include any SPAN you want to create :-(

Have fun.
