sending email through vpn tunnel means its encrypted?

This may be a stupid question but any data sent through a vpn tunnel is encrypted, right so therefore if I redirect emails to go through that tunnel then I can safely assume that the emails are encrypted also, right?

Techically, one may have tunnel that is not encrypted, so not necessarily. However, if you have standard IPSec tunnel with default settings (which include encryption), then yes, anything you send within that tunnel is now encrypted, including email.
