Dear All,
I need to send data to a port at a specified IP address, and then capture the data that gets sent back from that port.

Is this possible using ASP?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Alan.

sure -
but you would need to use an component to do that, or you would need to use ASP.Net (which I believe opens up access to screen tears and what not)

check out

and look at their component index.
maybe you'll find something that you can use

good luck
leo

hrm, or you can just write your own ActiveX control, plug it into your ASP page, and have it pass the data into the control, and just make the control do whatever you need it to do. Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}

thanks guys, I thought that would be the solution, the only problem is that I am using a virtual server on host that doesn't allow us to upload our own ActiveX components.

I guess there's no other way of doing it then?

Thanks for your help.
Alan.

I think I've found what I need....it's a component called ASPSock - by ServerObjects(.com)...it's installed on the server I am using, so I'm now a happy boy!

allows you to connect to any TCP port and send and receive data to that port...so it's perfect for my requirements.

Thanks!

Most hosting providers, will usally provide some third party componets, like my host provides, SuFileupload, and JMail and quite a few others (funny thing is they even provide Dundas Graph Control, I guess for the more analyst type of site) Karl Blessing aka kb244{fastHACK}
