Sending console messages

hi...I am building a test LAN at home. I have two 2003 servers, and two XP workstations. I was trying to send a message to my other machines from my DC. I get an error message saying, it could not map to my other machines....why is that?

test netBIOS resolution on your different PCs... make sure they can resolve each other that way..
Have you set up DNS?
can you ping them with host names?

and try the net send command just using IP address..

net send \\10.1.1.101 _____
