I have HP Openview sending alerts as email messages. I have noticed that it send the alert much too late for instance, a server that it noticed went down at 00:21 only got the email alert at 08:35 which is really alarming as we do not have a real time indication of what is happening.

Also how do I get HP OV to delete nodes that are down instantly and send messages also instantly?

Thanks

Hi vallan, well, that's why you should not trust smtp/e-mail for notifications, since sometimes it may take a while for a message to arrive, check SMTP's RFC for details
HP-OVO will not delete nodes instantly (is not supposed to do that), just after a period of time, of being "down", you can configure that, NNM is going to remove the "object" afetr a week or so, no problem.
Regarding the e-mail, the only thing you can make sure and check is if when OVO/NNM receives a Node Down event it "triggers" the action to send e-mail, and nothing else, can't rely completely on SMTP transport and particularly on smtp arriving at certain time.

Hope this helps a little,
