Sending a fax in MS Word over a networked ethernet connection.

I have a PC on a network. We access the Internet by a simple ethenet cable to a switch. I would like to send faxes from MS Word, but can only find details on doing so with an ATTACHED modem. Can anyone help? I need to send a fax using the networked internet connection and NOT an attached modem.

Can you even DO that? I assume you mean for the fax to reach someone by THEIR phone line (ie. as a fax). How would it do so? What protocol would accept packets from you and then send them as phone (modem) bits to someone else?

I am not aware of any VoIP fax machines....but there may be.
