Sender domain must exist

Hi,

I am very new to sendmail i have used it once before without any problems. I am now on a different computer and the same thing is not working. I am calling sendmail from a perl script. The mail is failing and going to root.
The error is:

Final-Recipient: RFC822; mjc1@student.cs.ucc.ie
Action: failed
Status: 5.5.2
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 501 <

Sender domain must exist

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to get this working?

Did you add your mail server name and ip to your dns &quot;MX&quot; and &quot;A&quot; records? For some reason SMTP is not finding your mail server when it does a dns look up. You might also check your network configs to see that your mail server name is an alias for your machine name.

I just ask this question because in our school we have DNS server + sendmail all is fine, but we want to add a new dns :

http://www.SOME_NAME.org

how i tell sendmail that as with the old dns, it must accept also the mail for
VALIDUSER@SOME_NAME.org
?

First, you will need to set your new domain's dns &quot;A&quot; record just like you did for your other domain so that

http://www.your-new-domain.org

points to the right ip address. Then set up the &quot;MX&quot; record to show that your mail server handles mail for

http://www.you-new-domain.org.

Then you would set sendmail to relay for

http://www.your-new-domain.org.

Setting up relaying for a domain is better than for all the users of that domain. Your current mail server would now become the hub for your domains.
