Send to causes email message to stop responding

I have a new computer with XP Pro SP2 and Office 2003. From Word 2003 I tried to do a File, Send to of the current Word document. When I went to send the email with the attached file, the email screen stopped responding. I went and looked in Sent Items and the message was listed there, but the email message still appeared, hung on my screen. When I insert a file by going to Insert, File in Outlook, it works just fine. It seems like there is an issue with the Send To feature. Has anyone else seen this with Office 2003? Any fixes?
