send sms via php

Hi,

I am sorry if there is a better place to post this but I want to be able to do this using PHP so I thought one of you guys might have used such a service before.

I want to send SMS notifications from my php script, has anyone done this before and how is it done? I take it you need to register for a gateway or something. Do anyone have any links to a good service? Obviusly would like to keep cost low.
