All the email programs I have currently tried; Eudora, ThunderBird, OE, and Outlook all require BOTH an inbound and outbound setting ... I have a requirement to have a ACCESS Application reside on a standalone box and be able to SEND ONLY using an existing EMAIL account that is active on another machine.

Is there an SMTP service/API that can be called to bypass using one of these EMAIL Programs to just send mail?

Just an ISP with a POP3 server (which I don't need to use) and a SMTP Server. I have a High Speed Connection to the ISP through a Router. Running XP SP2 which has IIS SMTP service ... so was thinking all I would need is an API to access a SENDMAIL type function to send out emails with attachements. The issue I have with using the Office interface to OE and or Outlook is;
A) these programs appear to need to be running for the sendmail to work
b) I don't want any POP3 inbound mail
i) so if I setup their POP3 configurations incorrectly they get ugly
ii) if set up the pop3 to get mail then I would also have to configure it to leave all mail on the server plus then have to filter all inbound mail to be deleted automatically

If I recall from a previous life it was really simple in Unix OS's to sendmail by just using a simple command line ... and most EMAIL servers back a decade or so didn't require authentication to use there sendmail services ... not sure where this stands today.

Not that I need to worry about the authentication as in this case I do have a valid email account service to use ... just was hoping there was a simple way to send mail ... The MS Technet goes into alot verbage for IIS SMTP but a quick skim of the documents didn't turn up any indication of A) if there is an API or B) if it is possible to use this service to do sendmail.

I was thinking as I read some of the details that it sounds like this server has the potential to do what I need ... just haven't found the HOW TO details.

Thank-you Franklin, I actually used blat on an NT server application back about ten years ago but at that time it wasn't able to do file attachments ... I looked at the current version 2.62 and it appears to now do file attachments ... I will test this out ... again thanx for the reply.
