We are using GroupWise 6.5.4 and Novell 6.5.2. When anyone in the office tries to send an e-mail to a particular domain, we receive the following message on the GWIA log:

10-18-05 13:47:44 15 MSG 3098 Processing outbound message...
10-18-05 13:47:44 15 MSG 3098 Sender: aaa@aaa.com
10-18-05 13:47:44 15 MSG 3098 Building message: s354fd00.045
10-18-05 13:47:44 15 MSG 3098 Recipient: bbb@bbb.com
10-18-05 13:47:44 15 DMN: MSG 3099 Send Failure: 451 Rejected by final destination
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Analyzing result file: FS1/VOL1:\APPS\GWDOMAIN\WPGATE\GWIA\result\r354fd00.045
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Detected error on SMTP command
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Command: RCPT TO:<bbb@bbb.com>
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Response: 451 Rejected by final destination
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Detected error on SMTP command
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Command: DATA
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Response: 551 No valid recipients
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 Building undeliverable message
10-18-05 13:48:15 0 MSG 3100 Building message: s354fd1e.046
10-18-05 13:48:44 15 MSG 3103 Processing inbound message: FS1/VOL1:\APPS\GWDOMAIN\WPGATE\GWIA\receive\F1DF4534.476

The e-mail is then returned to the sender with a "551 No Valid Recipients" message. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Any help is appreciated!

These types of messages simply indicate that the destination SMTP server is rejecting the message. The obvious reason would be that the TO address is not valid but I assume you have verified that it is.

As such, the next reason why this might happen is because the destination domain is validating the source domain (your system) and denying the connection for some SPAM related reason. Either your IP address is on a blacklist, or a reverse lookup is not coming up with the proper result, etc...

You need to get a hold of someone at the destination site and ask them why their mail server is rejecting messages from your system.

Found the problem. The recipient was using "Greylisting" and our version of GWIA does not defer messages that are listed as 451 or 551. The recipient will whitelist our domain with their organization. Thanks again for your help!
