I have a database of about 150 people and their email addresses. I want to send these people an email each month. Any suggestions?

Using ASP or are you open to other ways? There are OCX'x you can get that make this as easy as a click of a button, or even simplier seamless with the running of an application.

Give more info on what and where you are trying to do (ie. Form letters stat letters from website, etc.)

WIll give you some ideas if i know more what you are doing :)

Hi Joanne,
I have a website that users will give me their email addresses and I will send them an email notification of when this site has been updated. I am open to different ways that I could do this. I have lotus notes, MS Access, and Excel. Let me know if you need more information.

I guess the simplest way would be to produce a comma delimeted output of the email addresses using Access, and cut and paste these into Lotus Notes to send the email. Pretty basic, but simple and effective.

Thanks G,
If I could take a different approach then a long email list then that would be nice though.

There are ocx's available that you can just scripting into your asp page.

They are SMPT, FTP and a couple others, those are just the ones that I have used through code to take data on a page and dynamically create an email for multiple users. You dont really HAVE to go through Lotus notes do you because this wont actually open up a mail brower so to speak?

No, I don't have to go through Lotus notes. Could you give me some pointers on how to use the OCX to send these emails?
Thanks,
John

Do you have access to your webserver? Meaning, can you register WSH scripts, and DLLs? If so, you can create a WSH script to send out the emails using CDONTS (or whatever email component you use), and then set up task scheduler to run your script every month or so. WSH is cool because it is all VBScript, so you can use your ASP knowledge in the script.

If you cannot access your webserver like that, then you might want to create a webpage that sends out the email for you. Pull up this page every month or so, and then your emails would get sent out.

On a side note -
if you ever upgrade to SQL Server, things get a lot easier given that you can set up automatic tasks in SQL Server, and SQL Server will send out emails for you.

hope this helps -

John,
If you are still having problems let me know and I can email you an example of what I did and tell you which controls you can get. IP Works I think is what I used.

Joanne

Hi Joanne,

Hi i use Jmail, this is a component that integrates with ASP and is free! it allows to send emails dynmaically by calling a ASP page.
