Hello there,

I'm new to Exchange! I have setup an Exchange server on my internal for the purpose to understanding how Exchange works.

I have my domain registered w/Godaddy.com. I have a dynamic IP address w/SBC. Internal email are working. I would like to know what steps do I need to take to be able to send email out to the outside world.

Thanks

You're just now setting up a version of Exchange that's 2 versions back?

Anyways, you need to find a way of getting a static IP address. Then you can create MX records that point to your public IP address, forward the related ports through your firewall to the server, updating your reverse DNS record, and going from there.

I set it up about a year ago, but didn't have the time to finish it...

Is there a way to make it work w/dynamic IP.

Thank you sir!

There are a couple of ways, but neither should be used in production environment, IMHO.

1. Use a POP3 connector to connect to mailboxes hosted on an ISP's server.

2. Use some services like DynDNS and point the MX records to that.

There are a LOT of issues that can pop up there, not the least of which is that mail will be coming from a server on a dynamic IP list. MANY MANY MANY receiving servers won't accept mail from you.
