I was told that win 7 had a way to send an email when a scheduled task fails. I haven't been able to find this in the help files. When I googled it all I saw was that you need a script, which I can't write.

Is there a way to set this up from the task scheduler itself?

Thank you

When a task fails there would be some error code in the logging which is found at C:\Windows\Tasks\SCHEDLGU.TXT (I think). You might need a script or something that interrogates this log and then notifies you?

I don't think Task Scheduler can do it for you?

Task Scheduler 2.0

I'm trying something that I found (I guess I won't know if it works until a task fails)

in the event viewer, go to log summary and scroll to Microsoft windows task scheduler operational.

Open that and scroll to a failure. Right click and choose attach a task to this event, the create basic task wizard opens.

Seems like it would work?

Do you have to pick a "Failure" or error in the Operational list you mention, and if it works like you hope, does it report only that type of failure that you chose, or are you hoping that it picks up on all possible failures?

Let us know how it goes.

It worked it worked :)

It did report on the faliures that I choose, which are the ones I see most often. If I could find a list of all the failure codes I could make one for each I suppose. Or probably someone could make a script that would check for all of them and only use one task.

I have no idea what caused the failure (not logged in but every other task that runs during the period on that machine was fine) but I was able to restart the task in time and all is well.
