A client has purchased an imaging solution, runs on a W2K server. The application can generate emails to their customers to send Invoices and related documents as attachments to the emails (attachments are in .PDF format).

Can Groupwise accept outgoing emails from an application? Anyone know how I would authenticate the application in Novell so it could access email? The imaging software people tell me that it can do this with an smtp server.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Depends on exactly how the program is sending out the mail.

If it is making a MAPI32 call to the default mail client and you have GroupWise 5.5 Enhancement Pack and above, then this should work. This doesn't work for all programs from what I have seen. If it doesn't work with the GroupWise mail client, then try it with Outlook Express and use the GroupWise SMTP gateway as the SMTP server (see below for further config).

If the program wants to send to an SMTP server, then you will need to configure it to allow mail relay on the local network as a source. Be very security wise here, if you allow the SMPT server to relay from other sources, then you can get your clients mail server black listed. It is best to just open it up to the ip address the invoice application sits on.
