I'm so close I can smell it.

User Jane Bloggs uses Outlook 97 and Exchange mailbox. Additionally monitors other mailboxes like Enquiries, Tech Support and other mailboxes that you don't want to include a person's name on.

When she replies to mail in the other mailboxes it should reply AS that mailbox, not her. One of the mailboxes was doing it fine but not the other ones. Now I can't get this one to do it.

Outlook permissions are Jane has owner perms to other mailboxes, exchange perms are she is a user and her team have send as. No send on behalf of. No primary NT account.

Really stuck and as she sends 500 emails a day through these accounts she is bored typing the from address each time.

what you can do is go to the Control Panel of Janes machine, and double click on the Mail icon, this will bring you to the preperties of the Mail and in here on the Services Tab you should see Microsoft Exchange Server, go to the properties of that and in the General Tab you can change the Mailbox name to who ever you want...should work with those permissions...Are you doing this already???

Why dont you go to the tech support mailbox, and add Jane in as a delegate, (Tools->Options, and Delegates Tab) then with Jane's Outlook, add in the From: field, and just type in Tech or what ever the mail address name is...??????
or are you doing that already too!!! Jay~

My new Tae Kwon Do website is up and running!!

Hi,
Here's a Microsoft article about how to give somebody "Send as" permission for somebody else's mailbox on the Exchange server:

After that, you can do what the previous e-mail suggest about the delegates.

Then you can allow Jane to access other mailboxes (like tech Support) in her Outlook along with her own mailbox (same mail profile):
In Outlook do the following:
Tools->Services->Microsoft Exchange Server->Properties->Advanced->Add-> and add the mailboxes like Tech Support (all the mailboxes she needs to monitor).

The last thing is making the From Field available for the use.
Open the new message to compose, go to View, and ckeck "From Field".

Now when she creates a message, she can use From Field to put Tech Support mailbox name (for example) in there.

Sorry, if this e-mail is too long and has the info which you already know.

Clair,

Done all of that already (except for the microsoft article) and it still doesn't work. When she checks the inbox of tech support she should be able to just reply to sender and not have to fill in the from field as it should go out as from tech support automatically.

One of the mailboxes does this but the others don't. I have checked absolutely everything and it is all identical across the board.

<tears hair out>

ok:

Jane's mailbox works fine exactly as you would expect. She can see the Enquiries mailbox and ONLY the Inbox, not sent items or anything else. When she replies to an email in the Inbox it sends it FROM Enquiries.

She can see Tech Support mailbox and EVERY sub folder including calendar (though the properties say she has access NONE). When replying to an email in that inbox it arrives as from Jane.

I have done everything the same as far as I know - what am I missing?

<hair is thinning>

Hi,
After you do what the Microsoft articles says, check the set up of delegates again.

Clair

Also,
if she opens other mailboxes in the same Outlook profile (her own profile), she needs to use "From Field" when she sends mail from account other than her own.
If she uses different profiles for different mailboxes, than she doesn't need "From Field".

viewing other mailboxes using tools services exchange server advanced ADD.

Have checked delegates in Outlook and they are blank on all mailboxes. Using single profile in Outlook (cos if you use outlook.exe /profile "Jane" and then try to open outlook.exe /profile "Tech Support" with Jane still open, it just opens a second instance of Jane!).

Have FROM field showing and it works for Enquiries fine, but not Tech Support. Beginning to wish I'd told her it can't be done...

On Exchange server, when you do what Microsoft article suggests, give Jane not only "Send As" permission, but also "Full Control" for all the mailboxes she uses.
Then:
Close Jane's Outlook.
Go to Control Panel->Mail->Show Profiles button->Add, and configure profile for Tech Support (you can add one for each of the mailboxes she needs the access to).
Then choose Tech Support mailbox profile at "When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile" field.
Open the Outlook. It should open not Jane's mailbox, but Tech support mailbox.
While in Tech Support mailbox, go to Tolls->Options->Delegates and add Jane as a delegate with rights to everything for Tech Support mailbox.
(You can do all these steps for all the mailboxes Jane needs.)
Then go back to Jane's profile in "When starting Microsoft Outlook, use this profile" in Control Panel->Mail. Open Outlook in Jane's profile, and try to do what you need to do.
