Hi folks,

I am new to email servers and configurations. Basically I have just purchased a dedicated Fedora Linux Server with Postfix as the installed mail server. I am hosting a domain and website on this dedicated server. I have setup a couple of email addresses. Now I can send an email from one to another, but I can't send an email to any other domain like a hotmail address. I can receive emails fine however. I understand that I can add domains to "relay_domains" in main.cf. E.g. when I add hotmail.com to "relay_domains" then I am able to send email only to hotmail email addresses.

How can I configure my email server to be able to send emails to any email address at any domain?

Many Thanks

The first place to look is "mynetworks". By default, hosts on networks included in that list are allowed to relay freely.

Thanks for your reply. What should the value for mynetworks be? I tried "127.0.0.0/255.255.255.255" but this is not working I am getting an SMTP connection refused error now.

Many Thanks

That depends on what your networks are. 127 has a special use. What is the IP address range of the computers that will be sending e-mail? That's what needs to go in there, like this:

$mynetworks = 127.0.0.1/32, 192.168.1.0/24, 172.16.4.0/23

This tells Postfix that these networks are trusted and are allowed to relay mail through it without authentication.
