The instruction manual is very *vague* about how to do this. It talks about needing MKS Software to pull this off but doesn't say a thing about what MKS Software is or where to get it. I think I've figured out that it's software that lets you do command line stuff similiar to a Unix environment but I still haven't got this to work. Also I think the MKS Software I'm using will expire in 30 days or so. So if anyone can point me towards free-ware that doesn't expire that would be great too.

Basically I want to be able to send a text message to an email group every time a device goes down. Why is this so complicated in HPOV? It takes about 10 seconds to configure this on What's UP? Anyhelp you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

This is a problem from NT OV.
I tried for weeks and gave up - buy the dev edition of MKS software.
You need the shell command sh since NT can't handle UNIX line returns and smtpmail.
At the command line option:
sh generic.sh
In the OV/bin directory put a text file called generic.sh containing:
echo "Received trap: generic #$G specific #$S. $# args: $*" | smtpmail -f OVadmin@mydomain.com -s "Generic trap received" you@mydomain.com

(or whatever...)

This WORKS!!

Hi,
I want to know whether HPOpenView supports any API for getting the Event Types supported by NNM. It would be of great help to me.

Thanx amit
